The butterfly is a metaphor for the laws of nature in its constant transformation. When nature is interrupted by human beings, for example cutting down trees, it disturbs the balance, suggesting a change. I draw upon Chinese tradition and folklore to express the constant transformation of my Australian experience, in particular cut outs, as they demonstrate the interrelated positive and negative forms which are simultaneously equally important.
