Blossom utilises the medium of painting to tell a story. In spite of the isolation brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the world has proven its capacity to evolve and adapt. Once again, nature has revealed its power.
Challenging traditional painting methodology, the work uses the paintbrush like scissors, referencing elements from Zu’s paper-cuts. There are no perspectives in the painting – everywhere there is a centre. Departing from Zu’s signature monochrome paintings, the work is an intense pink, marking a time of monumental changes.
As an interdisciplinary artist, Zu intertwines painting and paper-cutting to explore the interplay between the two polarities of light and shadow, positive and negative, feminine and masculine, life and death.
